super addicting snicker-doodles

In my search for delicious treats to share with you guys, one of my friends let me know about a family recipe she has for some Snicker-doodles. I honestly have never even eaten a snicker-doodle cookie before but let me tell you now, my life has changed!

The wonderful combination of the tart dough mixed with the cinnamon-sugar coating make these cookies something you'll be coming back for seconds and thirds...and more! This recipe makes around 10 large cookies or 20 small cookies, of course just depending on what your preference on size is. This recipe will be for the large ones. Hope you have fun!

Snicker-doodles
  • Electric mixer
  • 1/2 cup butter (softened)
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 3/8 cup flour
  • 1 teaspoon Cream of Tarter
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon sugar & 2 teaspoon ground cinnamon mixed (for coating)
  • a drinking glass
  • Preheat oven to  375°F

Using your mixer, combine butter, sugar and egg together until smooth. Stir in flour, Cream of Tarter, baking soda and salt until a dough is formed. Before forming the cookie balls get your sugar and cinnamon mix in a bowl for coating the cookies.

Form the dough into little balls (slightly smaller than golf balls) and roll each ball in the bowl of mixed cinnamon and sugar making sure to cover the entire surface area.

Place 6 to 8 dough balls on a cookie sheet lined with parchment paper (cookies do expand slightly once cooked so number according cookie sheet size)

Now here is the fun part: with the drinking glass, press down on each cookie ball flattening it to about the size of a pancake causing the edges of the cookies to create their signature cracks. (for smaller cookies try using a prescription pill bottle to press the cookies...and be creative :P Don't be afraid to use shapes!)

Let cook in the oven for 10 minutes, followed by a cool down on wire-racks to harden. Once cookies are ready, as always, enjoy!
